Audition Boot Camp April 29

Audition Boot Camp

When: April 29
Time: 7:00pm–10:00pm
Instructor: Melissa Hammans
Maximum Participants: 10
Cost: $75/$20 (Audit)

Ready to NAIL your next Audition? Ready to BOOK your next show?

WHAT TO EXPECT: This 3-hour, Audition Boot Camp focuses on the fundamentals of auditioning for Musical Theatre, and how it pertains specifically to you, the actor. Expect to learn useful, constructive, and candid insight on everything from: acting a song, head shots and resumes, audition attire, entering a room, song choices, working with accompanists, and more. We are currently offering FOUR opportunities to hone your skills, and you can absolutely take this BOOTCAMP more than once.

To maximize individual attention and coaching, this class is restricted to 10 students (on a first-come, first-serve basis) and takes place in a master class style setting. Each actor will have the opportunity to observe and learn along with and from their classmates. Expect to dust off your "go-to audition songs", and replace bad audition habits with skills that will help you book the job.

PREPARATION: Prepare two songs of your choice (one ballad, one up-tempo, one 16 bars, one 32 bars). Each participant will sing through separately with an accompanist, and then work collaboratively with Melissa to explore the song. Be prepared to take adjustments and integrate them into your final performance."

Advanced Scene Study

Advanced Scene Study

When: Dates to be Announced
Instructor: Melissa Hammans
Maximum Participants: 10
Cost: $250/$20 (Audit)

Taught within a safe and creative environment, Advanced Scene Study employs a variety of exercises and acting techniques to give actors an opportunity to work on a scene with a partner over an extended period of time. This 4-week class is designed to cultivate working actors and creative artists. Each week begins with a discussion about process, followed by warm up and class exercises, improv, physical work, and/or text work. We then explore prepared scenes, exercises, songs, or monologues. From table work to the final staging, we will break down the text, play beats, play actions, and objectives to bring the story to life. We will examine what it means to take risks and bring your own life experiences and imaginations to your work, and to take adjustments constructively. Actors are expected to rehearse with their scene partners outside of class.

Acceptance into the Advanced Scene Study by instructor consent will be necessary, as the workshop will be designed for actors with some experience. In order to be considered, please use the form below to submit a headshot and resume to Melissa in advance of enrollment. Melissa will notify you of your eligibility to enroll with instructions on your next step.

Build Your Book Workshop

Build Your Book Workshop

When: Dates to be Announced
Instructor: Melissa Hammans
Maximum Participants: 12
Cost: $275/$20 (Audit)

An actor’s audition book is a statement of who are you are, what you love, where you have been, and where you are going. This four-week advanced intensive focuses on building well-rounded audition repertoire by polishing existing repertoire and exploring new material. BUILD YOUR BOOK will culminate with an opportunity to show your stuff to a selected panel of Nashville’s industry professionals.

Each week, BUILD YOUR BOOK participants will get individual attention in a small and supportive classroom setting. We will focus on the specific genres of music, foster discussions, provide input on such topics as "overdone" material that should be used strategically or with caution, common expectations and suggestions of casting directors, and the best/standard cuts for auditions at the professional level. During the 4th week of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to display their work before a panel of Nashville professionals with an array of casting expertise and authority. This might include directors, producers, casting directors, artistic directors, or agents. (Panelists are subject to availability and will be announced as they are secured.) Throughout the 4 weeks, when not performing, you will also be expected to complete structured feedback exercises, including song suggestions for your peers. You will learn as much from your classmates as you do from your own work!

This is a very "results oriented" class that will not only challenge you as an actor and singer, but also take your work to the next level.
